What requirements do I need to fulfill to train as a nursing specialist?

The Nursing Professions Act specifies the following criteria:

At least 10 years of completed general school education
Or a secondary general school certificate together with completed vocational training of at least 2 years’ duration
Or a degree in nursing assistance or as a nursing assistant

Is there a minimum age?

No! The Nursing Professions Act no longer stipulates a minimum age.

Is there a training allowance?

Yes! The remuneration is:

In the 1st year of training: € 1190

In the 2nd year of training: € 1252
In the 3rd year of training: € 1353

Is part-time training available?

The Nursing Professions Act allows part-time training. This lasts a maximum of 5 years.

Where can I apply?

The training is provided by hospitals, nursing homes and outpatient care services. They will be happy to accept your application or help you further.

Where are the schools for the theoretical part of the training?

In the Coesfeld district, the training facilities often cooperate with the Care Academy Care-Campus in Coesfeld and Dülmen or with the educational institution maxQalso in Dülmen. Sometimes the training providers also cooperate with schools outside the district.

Are there opportunities for further training in the care sector?

The possibilities are almost endless! In addition to the classic specialist further training courses such as surgical services, anesthesia and intensive care, outpatient care or psychiatric care, there are many opportunities for further training in individual specialist areas. This includes, for example, wound care, the care of patients with diabetes mellitus (diabetes)patients with Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis, or practical guidance in the training of young professionals. Over time, more and more opportunities for further training and specialization arise.

Is it possible to study nursing?

The range of degree courses in nursing, which can lead to a Master’s degree and doctorate (acquisition of a doctoral degree) after completing a Bachelor’s degree, is growing from year to year. This makes training as a nursing specialist particularly interesting for prospective students with an Abitur or Fachabitur.

Nursing/vocational education

Nursing science

The law provides for an undergraduate degree course in nursing, in which students are awarded an academic degree as well as a license to use the professional title. In NRW, the University of Applied Sciences for Health in Bochum offers this course.

Many theoretical training centers also cooperate with universities and offer dual study programs. Here you can start studying during your apprenticeship.

Is the training also recognized abroad?

Thanks to an agreement, training as a nursing specialist is recognized in all countries of the European Union. You can even set up as a freelance nurse in any country.
